Dr. Srilakshmi Rebala

Georgia Renal Associates is led by Dr. Rebala. Dr. Rebala has been serving the Athens and surrounding communities since 2004. Dr. Rebala’s goal is to promote quality of life through quality care. Dr. Rebala is committed to educating her patients, thus allowing them to take control of their health and their lives.

Dr. Rebala completed her Residency Program in Internal Medicine at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio. During her residency she made numerous presentations in various forums. She authored a peer reviewed research paper along with three of her colleagues and her professor.

In 2001, Dr. Rebala was admitted into a prestigious Nephrology Fellowship program at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Dr. Rebala continued clinical research while getting specialized training in Nephrology. She completed her training in Nephrology in 2004.

Dr. Rebala currently serves as the Medical Director for In-Patient HemoDialysis at Piedmont Athens Regional hospital. 

When an opportunity presented itself to teach at University of Georgia/Medical Regents University in Athens, GA she immediately agreed.  Dr. Rebala fell in love with teaching Medical Students and Internal Medicine Residents with unique perspective of a Community Physician.  

Dr. Rebala’s clinical interests focus on improving quality of life for Kidney patients by emphasizing and providing options such as home dialysis and transplant.  In addition Dr. Rebala’s interests include Apheresis, CRRT that are used to treat patients with some rare diseases. 

Dr Rebala is a Board Certified Internist and Nephrologist.  She participates in and is current with her Maintenance of Certification (MOC). 

In 2017 Dr. Rebala was elected as a Fellow of American College of Physicians.

Dr. Jorge Chancay, MD

Dr. Jorge Chancay joined the team in August 2022.  Dr. Chancay did his Residency in Internal Medicine at New York University.  Later he decided to specialize in Nephrology and joined Fellowship at the prestigious Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai Health Center.  After completing his Nephrology Fellowship, he continued with further specializing in Transplant Nephrology at Recanati Miller Transplant Center at Mount Sinai Health Center. 

Dr. Chancay is passionate about patient care.  He brings a unique blend of expertise, enthusiasm and professionalism to providing care – one patient at a time.  Dr. Chancay's clinical interests includes management of kidney transplant patients, Chronic Kidney disease and more.

During his Internal Medicine Residency program, Nephrology Fellowship training and Transplant Nephrology training, Dr. Chancay was actively involved in Clinical Research. He authored/coauthored and published multiple research papers in respected and peer reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Chancay has always been interested in educating/teaching next generation of Physicians.  He took an important step of getting certified by Harvard University in Educating Future Physicians.  Throughout his Residency program he taught Medical Students.  During his Nephrology Fellowship and Transplant Nephrology program Dr. Chancay taught Medical Students and Residents.   

Dr. Chancay is currently board certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine.  Dr. Chancay is a member of United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS).  UNOS is a private, non-profit organization that manages the U.S. organ transplantation system. 

Dr. Chancay is fluent in Spanish and English.

Dr. Ashwin Thatti, MD

Dr. Thatti joined the team in August of 2023. Dr. Thatti completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education in Scranton, PA. He specialized in Nephrology at the University of Texas at Houston. During his Residency program and Nephrology Fellowship training he was actively involved in research. He published several articles and research papers in peer reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Thatti is passionate about patient care. He wanted to be a physician from a very young age. Dr. Thatti brings a unique blend of expertise and empathy to patient care with a motto of one patient at a time.

Dr. Thatti is currently board certified in Internal Medicine.

Julie M Key, PA-C

Julie Key has been a part of our team since 2010. She received her bachelor's degree from Asbury University in 2006 and her Master's degree in physician assistant studies from the University of Kentucky in 2010. She's married to Kyle and they have two children.

Ms. Key is a board certified Physician Assistant.

Staff

Our office staff include Mallory, Jan, Haleigh and Alivia. They handle all of our patients’ needs from scheduling appointments to making patients’ comfortable once in our office in an efficient and compassionate manner.

Mallory and Jan are Certified Medical Assistants. Alivia is a Certified Nurse Assistant.
